A Day in the Life
The old movie theater was abandoned at this point in time, it had been a couple of years since the newer and bigger theater opened across town. The old theater was the last of the stores in at the plaza, the other stores either closing down or moving to the newer side of town. Almost everything about this movie theater was outclassed by the newer one, bigger theaters rooms, better chairs, machines, even the tickets at the new theater were better. However, this theater had a life, many memories were held here, but its time was coming to an end.
The old theater was much, much smaller, it had low ceilings and each room of the theater was tiny compared to the new theater. The theater lacked all of the new aged technology, automated/heated chairs, mobile or quick ticket booths, out-dated sound systems, and all the perks of a better projector. The retro, dark reddish, patterned floors were more worn out over the years. The arcade games were barely used anymore, either broken down or covered in dust. Even the park lot was in bad condition, cracks and potholes scattered across the entire lot.
Marcus was one of the last workers at the old theater that stayed, instead of transferring to the new theater or leaving. When the new theater opened, fewer workers were needed at the older one, leading to most Marcus' old co-workers leaving. Though business was considerably slower, there were still regular customers that still came to the theater, with the occasional new ones, here and there. In spite of that, profits were decreasing by the months as more and more people moved onto the new theater. Eventually, in the summer, Marcus' manager informed him about the theater completely shutting down, with any useful resource or workers moving to the other theater. Marcus knew that this day was inevitable but quite sad about the news. It was his first job he genuinely enjoyed.
