Three Parts to Go
Marcus gripped the phone in his palm, look down to a glimpse of the numbers 9-1-1.
“We can not tell anyone about this, we are responsible for those reels”
Kyla was in a panic, trying to grasp the severity of the situation they have found themselves in. Her breathing became heavy, the dust in the projection booth made it harder for her to breathe.
“I know its the what you’re not supposed to say it, but Kyla try not to panic”,
She hadn’t said a word in minutes, Marcus who was in the same shock, knew that it was better to not scare for further and with effort, stayed calmed for both their sakes.
“Listen to be Kyla, I promise to you we will find those reels, You have to trust me, I know, it’s going to be hard for you right now, but we have to go now”, Marcus softly said to Kyla
Kyla struggled with her panic, but with a nod indicated to Marcus her agreement to his words. Marcus closed the gray metal door, locking it correctly as if someone has not touched the door in weeks.
“Look the first I think we should make it look like no one has been in there for a while”
The two trek back to the office, Kyla still emotional in shock/panic being helped by Marcus. Marcus clueless of how to help tries his best to comfort Kyla in her distraught.
“Umm, how about you just rest there for a bit, just relax or at least try to.”
A couple of hours pass by, Kyla who fell asleep, wakes up better than before. She notices that she is alone in the back office, there’s only one light on, above her. After looking around, and shuffling between boxes of organized merchandise, office supplies, and papers, she sees Marcus’s silhouette rummage around the manager’s office. She makes her way over, knocking on the door.
“Its Kyla, are you good in there, Marcus. Can I come in?”
“Oh, yeah, I moved in here cause you were sleeping, I didn’t want to wake you up, you seemed pretty bad earlier. But uh, how you doing now?”, Marcus responded
There are papers scattered all around, drawers and cabinets opened, it was a complete mess.
“Hey, um thanks for helping me, I’m still a little shook, but what are you doing?”
She looks at Marcus, who is sitting on the chair, flipping through piles of papers and books on the desk.
